Tommy Dreamer Discusses Why WWE’s First Two-Hour Raw Felt ‘Weird’
This past Monday marked the first two-hour “WWE Raw” since the show transitioned to a three-hour format in 2012. The change has received mixed reactions from fans. Some have long advocated for a shorter show, arguing that the three-hour format often feels excessive. Conversely, others believe that reducing the show to two hours limits opportunities for their favorite stars and negatively impacts quality.
One person who was less than impressed with WWE’s inaugural two-hour “Raw” in 12 years is ECW legend Tommy Dreamer. Speaking on “Busted Open After Dark,” he expressed concerns that the new format could derail storylines.
“I left the show scratching my pony-tailed head… I felt ‘Raw’ was weird tonight,” Dreamer said. He praised Seth Rollins’ promo as excellent but noted that it was interrupted by Jey Uso, which seemed to create tension between the two. “It looked like Seth was almost pissed off that Jey came out there for his match,” he added. “This is what I was telling you last week: when you take away an hour from your television show, a lot of people are going to lose real estate on ‘Monday Night Raw.’ I felt that missing hour hurt a lot of stories.”
Dreamer also expressed concern that WWE was trying to weave together too many storylines, leading to confusion, particularly regarding tensions among babyfaces. Fortunately for Dreamer and others who prefer the longer format, “Raw” might revert to its three-hour format this coming January when the brand transitions to Netflix.
