Bully Ray Compares WWE Raw Match Finish to Iconic WrestleMania Moment
WrestleMania III is often regarded as the pinnacle of WWE main events, with Hulk Hogan’s bodyslam of Andre The Giant celebrated as one of the company’s greatest moments. On “Busted Open Radio,” Bully Ray drew a parallel between this classic moment and the finish of Monday’s main event featuring Sami Zayn and World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
“Sami Zayn kicked out at one… Who is the first person we remember kicking out at one?” Bully Ray posed. “Wasn’t it Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III?”
He continued, “To my memory, Hulk made that kickout at one into something special, where he suddenly came to life.” Bully referred to this as “The Adrenaline Spot” of a match. After Gunther delivered two significant moves, Sami Zayn kicked out at one, reminiscent of a sudden surge of adrenaline.
Bully appreciated that Sami didn’t merely replicate Hogan’s iconic moment; instead, his burst of energy was quickly extinguished by Gunther’s Rear Naked Choke.
“What it does for the fans is just as important as what it does for the wrestler,” Bully noted, emphasizing how the audience reacts as soon as Sami kicks out. “It gives them hope… But just as quickly as Gunther gives them that hope, he snatches it away.”
Bully praised Gunther’s unique approach to match finishes, saying, “I’m a fan of how Gunther executes finishes at the most unexpected or unconventional moments. He doesn’t adhere to traditional psychology.” He likened Gunther’s pacing to the style of 1980s All Japan Pro Wrestling, where finishing moves can come from seemingly nowhere, creating an atmosphere of “shock and awe.”
