AEW’s Cash Wheeler Considered Retiring While Battling Legal Issues

Former AEW Tag Team Champion Cash Wheeler overcame a dark chapter in his life earlier this year when charges against him were dropped.

Wheeler was arrested on August 18, 2023, in Orange County, Florida, facing a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm stemming from a road rage incident. He was initially set to stand trial in May 2024, but the prosecution decided not to pursue the case.

Despite the ongoing legal issues, Wheeler continued wrestling. However, in another reality, he might have chosen a different path. During an appearance on “AEW Close-Up” with Renee Paquette, Wheeler’s FTR tag team partner, Dax Harwood, revealed that Wheeler was on the verge of retiring due to the legal turmoil.

“About a week after he told me what happened, he said, ‘I think I’m going to retire because I don’t want to subject you to what I’m going through,'” Harwood shared. “He knew there was backlash on Twitter, the cesspool of all social media. He said, ‘I’m just going to retire so you don’t have to worry … I’m leaving wrestling.'”
