AEW’s Jeff Jarrett Talks Build-Up To Strap Match Against Adam Page At Grand Slam
At 57, Jeff Jarrett continues to surprise AEW fans by competing in high-profile storylines against much younger opponents. On a recent episode of his My World podcast, released ahead of “AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam,” Jarrett discussed his upcoming strap match against Adam Page, set to air on the September 28 episode of “AEW Collision.”
“I really pushed hard for this match,” Jarrett revealed. “I said, hey, let’s give this guy a real chance to show how tough he really is. No cinderblocks, no syringes—just man to man, with a leather strap. Can you cause pain? Absolutely. And if I have to take some pain, I’m fine with that.” The WWE Hall of Famer also shared some behind-the-scenes details, explaining that during their brawl on the September 18 episode of Dynamite, Page delivered some unexpectedly stiff shots, one of which hit Jarrett square in the right eye.
“He threw a few real punches,” Jarrett said. “I felt it. I was walking through the Philadelphia airport Thursday morning, and [my wife] Karen Jarrett says, ‘Oh my god, look at your eye.’” Jarrett also noted that Page landed another heavy blow during their match at All In at Wembley Stadium.
In the lead-up to the strap match, AEW shared a fiery backstage promo featuring Jarrett and conducted by Renee Paquette. Reflecting on that promo, Jarrett explained that getting fired up wasn’t difficult, though he found it a bit odd to be playing the babyface in the storyline. “I didn’t have to dig deep to stir up some real emotion,” Jarrett said. “To get the chance to face the hottest heel in the business at this point in my career, as the babyface? What kind of world are we living in?”
Despite the stiff shots and role reversal, Jarrett seems eager to prove himself once again, embracing the opportunity to compete with a top star in AEW’s current landscape.
