During the peak of the “Monday Night Wars” between WWE and WCW, D-Generation X (DX) pulled off one of the most memorable stunts in pro wrestling history – a bold “invasion” of the Turner Broadcasting Headquarters. This unexpected move made a significant impact, giving WWE some much-needed momentum in its rivalry with WCW.
X-Pac, who was a member of DX at the time, recently reflected on the moment during an appearance on the WWE Vault. According to him, the “WCW Invasion” is among the top three highlights of his entire career. “It was unheard of that we did that; it was just crazy!” X-Pac said. “No one would have ever thought we had the balls to do that.”
Looking back, X-Pac shared a bit of regret, revealing that the group initially planned to enter the building. However, the arena quickly locked down the building and prevented them from carrying out their plan. “My whole idea was like, ‘We gotta get in the building!'” he confessed. “WCW’s the only other buyer in the wrestler’s market [at that time]. It would be kinda burning a bridge, right? At least, that’s what the concern was – and none of us cared!”
As they made their way into the CNN Tower, security was ready to escort them out. But in a twist of fate, they were unexpectedly greeted by a friendly voice. “And then all of a sudden, we hear ‘DX, I love you guys!’ and it’s Dick Cheatham, the Vice President of all of Turner Broadcasting,” X-Pac recalled. The encounter led to Cheatham offering them all-access passes, although X-Pac did not elaborate on whether they accepted the offer.
This audacious stunt remains a defining moment in the history of WWE, and X-Pac’s recollections highlight the rebellious spirit that made DX one of the most iconic factions in wrestling history.
