WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash Talks Vince McMahon as a Character and Person
Netflix’s Mr. McMahon docuseries has sparked discussions about how much Vince McMahon, the man, resembles his larger-than-life character on WWE television. WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, who worked closely with McMahon during his career, weighed in on the topic during a recent episode of his Kliq This podcast.
“I think they’re separate,” Nash said when asked if the real Vince McMahon is similar to his on-screen persona. “I can only speak from my experience and my relationship with him. The last time we spoke was at [Triple H’s] 50th birthday. It was mostly family, and The Kliq was there. I think Dave Batista was the only other boy there.”
Nash recalled having a meaningful conversation with McMahon that day, mentioning that he still seeks advice from his former boss, including financial tips like how to become a billionaire. Addressing comments made in the docuseries by other WWE legends who referred to McMahon as a father figure, Nash acknowledged the special bond that came with being part of McMahon’s inner circle.
“Undertaker called him a father figure. [John] Cena said the same thing. Anybody who had that level of relationship with Vince at the top … I really only had that for a year,” Nash explained. “Sometimes I’d show up at TV, want to see Vince, and there’d be a line of people waiting. I always got to cut the line and knock on the door.”
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion emphasized that while he never disturbed McMahon right before showtime, he always managed to get face time with him. “He was my friend, and he’s still my friend,” Nash concluded.
Nash’s comments highlight the complexity of Vince McMahon, separating the on-screen “Mr. McMahon” character from the man who built WWE into a global empire, all while maintaining close relationships with those he worked with at the highest level.
