Tonight marks the crowning of the first-ever Men’s and Women’s Crown Jewel Champions. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes faces World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, while Women’s Champion Nia Jax clashes with Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. The tension between Morgan and Jax soared during a verbal spat on “SmackDown,” leading to Morgan’s victory over Jax’s ally Tiffany Stratton. Meanwhile, Rhodes and Randy Orton triumphed over GUNTHER and Ludwig Kaiser. Orton will also face Kevin Owens in a heated match, following weeks of rising tensions since Owens attacked Rhodes after WWE Bad Blood and subsequently blindsided Orton. The feud escalated on “SmackDown” with Owens’ chair assault on Orton post-match. Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso aim to dethrone Solo Sikoa as “Tribal Chief” in their clash against Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga. Their conflict has been public, highlighted by The Bloodline’s interference costing Jey his Intercontinental Championship and Jimmy’s appeal to Jey to unite against Sikoa’s faction. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair defend their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson, Damage CTRL (IYO SKY and Kairi Sane), and Chelsea Green and Piper Niven in a Fatal Four-Way Match. Last night’s “SmackDown” saw SKY win over Legend, Belair, and Niven, sparking a ringside brawl involving Cargill, Jackson, Sane, and Green. LA Knight defends the United States Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Carmelo Hayes and Andrade. Both challengers previously fell short in singles matches against Knight on “SmackDown.” Their rematch was set after Knight interfered in their Best of Seven series finale. This weekend’s WWE Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will see a historic crowning of the inaugural WWE Crown Jewel Champions. World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER faces Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, while Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan battles WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax. During the Crown Jewel Kickoff Show, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque announced that the new championship belts would remain in Riyadh’s WWE Experience attraction rather than returning to the U.S. “These titles will stay here in Saudi Arabia, right inside the WWE Experience, so everyone can come here, see these titles on display,” Triple H announced. “The Crown Jewel Champions will walk away with a massive ring, like a Super Bowl ring, showing they are the one true champion in WWE. As this is an annual event, we’ll see how many rings people can collect over the years.” This isn’t the first ceremonial WWE title exclusive to Saudi Arabia. In 2018, Braun Strowman won a commemorative title belt and trophy at the Greatest Royal Rumble. Crown Jewel 2018 saw Shane McMahon win the WWE World Cup, branding himself “Best in the World,” while Crown Jewel 2019 had Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows lift the World Tag Team Cup. At 2020’s Super ShowDown, The Undertaker defeated AJ Styles for the Tuwaiq Trophy.

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is set to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER for the men’s Crown Jewel Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Rhodes’ journey back to the top included a stint away from WWE, leaving in 2014 as Stardust and returning in 2022 as the “American Nightmare.” In a recent “Flagrant” interview, Rhodes discussed the difference between his current character and his previous run. “Sometimes I think it’s as easy as physicality,” Rhodes explained. “This is gonna sound silly, but this is a vanity business. If you’re trying to be on the come up, you’ve got to be in the best shape of your career.” Rhodes highlighted GUNTHER as an example of transformation. “GUNTHER, on the independents, wasn’t visibly muscular, just a hefty, tree-chopping killer dude. Now, he’s in the best shape of his career, looks incredible, and plays the part well. Some fans don’t understand how important that is.” He continued, “We wrestle with our shirts off, standing next to top athletes. Fans say, ‘You can’t body shame wrestlers.’ What are you talking about? We’re half-naked, you paid hundreds to be there, you can body shame me all you want.” Reflecting on his initial WWE run, Rhodes linked his earlier missteps to his physical condition and not fighting “the little battles” creatively. “I wasn’t in great shape and was Dustin’s partner. I should’ve focused on being in the best shape, delivering the best promos, and fighting the little battles. I let frustrations build and eventually asked for my release,” he admitted. Rhodes praised the current WWE locker room culture, emphasizing its health consciousness. “Everyone’s like, ‘Who does your diet?’ ‘Who’s training?’ There’s a whole new health-conscious WWE that I love. We’re trying to look our best.”
