Tony Schiavone Calls AEW Star the Closest Thing to WWE’s ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin
WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is regarded as one of the most iconic wrestlers in history. Many wrestling promotions have tried to replicate the immense success of the “Texas Rattlesnake” during his peak years, but few have succeeded. However, AEW commentator Tony Schiavone believes that AEW has found its own version of Austin, a claim he made on his podcast, “What Happened When?”
“I hate to make this comparison, but I’m going to, and I’ve said it before. Jon Moxley is probably the closest thing to a Stone Cold Steve Austin that we have in AEW,” Schiavone stated. He described Moxley as the type of wrestler who embodies a carefree attitude that resonates with fans. Schiavone also highlighted Darby Allin, noting that he shares a similar fearless approach. “Darby’s the type of guy who, wouldn’t you agree, makes you feel like every match he wrestles could be his last because of the crazy things he does?”
Austin retired with a remarkable record of six-time WWE Champion, while Moxley currently boasts five championships, including three AEW World Championships, one WWE Championship, and one IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Moxley has a chance to equal Austin’s title count on October 12 when he faces Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream. This matchup carries significant stakes for Danielson, as he will retire from full-time wrestling if he loses, adding another layer of intensity to the event.
