Tony D’Angelo Reflects on Winning the NXT North American Title
After three years of development in “WWE NXT,” Tony D’Angelo has established himself as a significant player, achieving accolades such as being a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, an NXT Heritage Cup winner, and now, the current NXT North American Champion.
In a recent appearance on “The Ringer Wrestling Show,” D’Angelo opened up about the emotional weight of his latest title victory, where he broke Oma Femi’s record-setting reign.
A Milestone Achievement
“This one was emotional because I climbed the mountain that nobody thought I could climb,” D’Angelo shared, reflecting on how much the win meant to him. He credited his family, including Channing Lorenzo, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo, for their unwavering support during his challenging moments.
“Having the family with me … it all worked out and it was a nice hurdle to get over in the career for sure,” he added.
A Unique Achievement
D’Angelo made history as the first NXT superstar to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship, Heritage Cup, and NXT North American Championship. When asked about potentially challenging Trick Williams for the NXT Championship, D’Angelo expressed a level of respect for his fellow competitor.
“Of course, everybody thinks about that, but you know what, I think Trick’s a nice guy,” he remarked. “I don’t wanna take it from him right away, I’ll let him hang on to it for a little bit and then we’ll re-evaluate.”
Family Support
On the personal front, D’Angelo shared the heartwarming reaction from his family following his title win. “It was great. The family was … I can’t explain in words how excited they were for me,” he said, highlighting the importance of having a support system.
“It just means I got a lot of people in my corner and that’s a good feeling to know people got your back and people want to see you succeed.”
