Tommy Dreamer Suggests WWE Star Could Be Among All-Time Greatest Babyfaces
When wrestling fans think of legendary babyfaces — the heroic “good guys” of the industry — names like John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy, and AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson often come to mind. However, according to WWE veteran Tommy Dreamer, there’s another name that deserves to be in the conversation: Sami Zayn.
“I might have to start putting Sami Zayn up there among the greatest babyfaces to study if you want to learn how to be a babyface,” Dreamer shared on Busted Open After Dark. “Here’s the thing about Sami, and I say this as the ultimate compliment: Sami could get squashed like an old-school jobber tonight, and the very next day, he could be your world champion. He’s that believable. His ability to sell is just an art form.”
Dreamer went on to compare Zayn to WWE icon Jeff Hardy, particularly in the way Hardy could captivate fans with his ability to sell moves during a match. “Jeff always worked magic when he was selling, and when he finally made his comeback, that sell made it mean so much more. I used to talk about the greatest babyfaces of all time, and now I might need to start including Sami’s name.”
Dreamer believes that Zayn stands out from many of his peers, largely because of the way he makes every move in the ring feel impactful. His ability to sell moves is so effective that, despite his accolades, Zayn is still often viewed as the underdog. Dreamer pointed to Zayn’s current rivalry with WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, a competitor Zayn has already defeated at WrestleMania. Even with that victory under his belt, Dreamer feels Zayn continues to fight from beneath, making his babyface status even more compelling.
In Dreamer’s eyes, Zayn’s unique ability to engage fans and make his matches feel personal sets him apart and could eventually land him among the all-time great babyfaces in professional wrestling.
