The Godfather Names WWE Hall of Famer Among Toughest Opponents
WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather wrestled many top names throughout his career and recently shared his experiences, naming both the easiest and most challenging stars to work with.
During an episode of Poddin’ Ain’t Easy, The Godfather reflected on his time in the ring and highlighted a few opponents who were particularly easy to collaborate with.
“Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, Fit Finlay, Dave Taylor — I could keep going, but Owen and Shawn were like a night off,” he said. Godfather emphasized how both men were generous in the ring, saying they would “sell their asses off.” He also mentioned that he often let Shawn Michaels call their matches due to how smoothly everything flowed.
However, on the other end of the spectrum, The Godfather recalled some of the most challenging opponents he faced, citing Bob Backlund and Kamala from his days as Papa Shango. He explained that working with Kamala was especially difficult, as Kamala was far more comfortable in his character than Godfather was with the Papa Shango gimmick.
“Kamala was so much better at his gimmick than I was with mine, that I didn’t know what to do,” Godfather admitted. He went on to say that Kamala’s portrayal of being afraid of the voodoo man left him unsure of how to react, making the matches challenging to execute.
The Godfather also recently shared a story about how he first got into professional wrestling while working as a bouncer. He credited a Sylvester Stallone movie for playing a pivotal role in pushing him to take wrestling seriously, sparking the beginning of his legendary career.
