New Role for Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts in AEW Revealed

On the “Title Tuesday” edition of AEW Dynamite, a unique trade between managers took place. Don Callis secured the services of Lance Archer, while Jake “The Snake” Roberts became the new manager for Rush, aligning himself with a reformed version of La Faccion Ingobernables (LFI). Dave Meltzer discussed this change in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, shedding light on the reasons behind Roberts’ new role.

According to Meltzer, Roberts’ connection with Mexican wrestling dates back to his time in AAA during the 1990s, particularly in 1997 when he worked a few major events, including TripleMania. This familiarity with the Mexican wrestling scene made him a fitting choice to manage LFI.

However, Meltzer also voiced concerns about Roberts being a regular on-screen presence. He noted that AEW has had difficulty engaging its younger audience, many of whom may not be as familiar with Roberts’ legendary career. Despite this, he acknowledged that Roberts remains a valuable asset, especially as a backstage coach. Though wrestling styles have evolved since Roberts’ prime, Meltzer believes that his deep understanding of ring psychology could benefit talents like Rush, Dralistico, and The Beast Mortos.

La Faccion Ingobernables has experienced numerous transformations since debuting on AEW TV two years ago. Initially, the faction was comprised of Rush, Andrade El Idolo, Dragon Lee, and Jose The Assistant. However, the group’s composition quickly shifted as Dragon Lee remained in Mexico, and Andrade faced injuries and suspensions. Preston Vance eventually joined LFI, with Dralistico following suit. Earlier in 2024, Jose The Assistant was released from AEW, and by mid-year, Rush had removed Vance from the faction. Andrade ultimately left AEW and returned to WWE, leading to further changes in the lineup.

With Roberts now at the helm, this latest iteration of LFI marks a new chapter for the faction, as they look to continue their presence in AEW under his guidance.
