Mustafa Ali recently shared a deeply emotional account of the day he was released from his WWE contract in September 2023 during an interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. In his interview, Ali revealed an unfortunate and unexpected twist to that day, which involved his wife’s serious health condition.
Ali recalled the moment he received the call from WWE about his release. He was downstairs doing a cardio workout when he got the news. Afterward, he walked upstairs to tell his wife, reassuring her that he’d figure out his next steps. But just minutes later, his wife received a call from her doctor revealing a devastating diagnosis.
“Five minutes goes by [after getting the call about the release] and her phone rings,” Ali explained. “She picks it up… My wife was having really bad neck pain for months, and it kept getting worse.” The pain, which had become debilitating, led them to seek medical attention. After multiple visits, her doctor informed them that she had a broken neck and would need surgery.
This news, coming right after Ali’s WWE release, understandably shifted his entire focus to his wife’s health and the impending surgery. “My attention, all of my energy, my focus goes [to her],” he said. Despite the stress and uncertainty, Ali was able to secure surgery for his wife, thanks to the help of some doctor friends, and she received the required medical attention soon after.
Ali’s experience underscores the emotional challenges he faced both personally and professionally, dealing with a sudden career change while also caring for his wife’s serious medical needs.
