AEW’s Will Ospreay Opens Up About Health Issues and Wrestling at Less Than 100%
Former AEW International Champion Will Ospreay is well-known for his high-risk, high-impact wrestling style, but he acknowledges the toll it takes on his body. In a recent interview with The Masked Man Show, Ospreay discussed how hard it is to give his body a proper break in the wrestling world.
“The body’s sore—but when isn’t it?” Ospreay remarked. “Everything I do puts wear and tear on me.” He expressed gratitude for AEW’s “phenomenal” medical staff, who ensure he’s ready to compete, despite the aches and bruises. “I feel fine, but I’m never going to be 100%.”
Ospreay pointed out that no wrestler is ever fully healthy, noting his limited experience with house shows. Even in New Japan, his non-televised appearances were mostly tag team matches, which are less physically demanding than singles bouts.
“I’ve learned to adapt to my environment and circumstances,” he said. However, Ospreay admitted that slowing down isn’t in his nature. “I don’t know if I even have a slower gear… weirdly enough, motion is the lotion for my body.”
The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion explained that staying active helps keep his joints loose and his mind sharp, as he struggles to focus on any one thing for too long. Ospreay recently faced a challenging night at AEW Dynamite, losing his International Championship to Konosuke Takeshita in a three-way match involving Ricochet. The outcome was influenced by interference from Kyle Fletcher, Ospreay’s former friend, adding another layer of complexity to the loss.
